Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?

1. She’s the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.

2. Mostly to clean the house.

3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?

1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.

2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.

3. God made my mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?

1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.

2. They had to get their start from men’s bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?

1. We’re related.

2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people’s moms like me.

What kind of a little girl was your mom?

1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.

2. I don’t know because I wasn’t there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.

3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?

1. His last name.

2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?

3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?

1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my mom eats a lot

2. She got too old to do anything else with him.

3. My grandma says that mom didn’t have her thinking cap on.

Who’s the boss at your house?

1. Mom doesn’t want to be boss, but she has to because dad’s such a goof ball.

2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.

3. I guess mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What’s the difference between moms and dads?

1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just work at work.

2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.

3. Dads are taller and stronger, but moms have all the real power ’cause that’s who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friends.

4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine..

What does your mom do in her spare time?

1. Mothers don’t do spare time.

2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?

1. On the inside she’s already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.

2. Diet. You know, her hair. I’d diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?

1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I’d get rid of that.

2. I’d make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.

3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

If I had my child to raise over again
I’d build self-esteem first and the house later
I’d finger paint more and point the finger less
I would do less correcting and more connecting
I’d take my eyes off my watch and watch with my eyes
I would care to know less and know to care more
I’d take more hikes and fly more kites
I’d stop playing serious and seriously play
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars
I’d do more hugging and less tugging
I’d see the oak tree in the acorn more often
I would be firm less often and affirm much more
I’d model less about the love of power
And more about the power of love.
- Diane Looman

OK everyone, exhale.

We’ve done it and survived the first month back to school.

My daughter started afternoon JK and it’s been a great transition – for her. I have had a harder time trying to balance it all. Her bus comes at 11:35 so that means we eat lunch at 10:45 in order to get enough food into her, teeth brushed, outfit changed because there is usually a spill of some sort and, to top it all off, a trip to the loo! I have asked her if she would rather me take her to school instead of the 40 minute bus trip for a three minute drive but she has insisted that she wants to be on the bus. I guess there is some cache with the whole experience if you’re a fiery four year-old.

I cried the first day she walked on the bus with every confidence in the world, looking back at me with a smile from ear to ear. It’s an image, and a feeling, I’ll never forget. I waited until the bus was around the corner, grabbed my 2-year old and followed them at a safe distance in the car. Am I the only mom in the world to have done this? Please tell me no! I didn’t want her new bus driver to think I was a neurotic, overprotective, bubble wrapped kind of mom, but I did want to see my daughter walk off that bus and into the next chapter of her life.

And when she arrives home, I have already started to get the famous, “I don’t know,” when I ask her what she did at school that day. I thought I had at least a few years before I had to weave my conversation around her one word answers. I guess not. I’m learning as I go, as we all are.

To see her skip through her day counting everything in sight, identifying letters, sounds and trying to spell brings me a joy like no other. She’s well on her way and I’m excited for her.

What more can you ask for?

Last year’s summer camp was a huge hit!! We offered a great combination of arts, sports, culture, drama and just plain old summertime fun! We also had daily trips to the park to enjoy the weather and burn off some steam! With rave reviews from both Campers and Parents, this year we will continue to offer our wondrous camp from August 21-31. This is our third year of building precious summer fun memories! We are very sorry that we cannot offer additional weeks, but our scheduled renovations/move will be more time consuming than anticipated earlier.

Here is an idea of the activities we will do in the morning:

(Mon-Fri: everyday brings artistic diversity with caring teachers)

Drawing and Painting
Cartooning
Mixed Media (Clay, crafts using recycled material, sewing…)
Drama and Movement
Yoga

Please e-mail us if you are interested to be on our summer time list. Spots will fill up quickly and we will only accept up to 15 kids at a time. Click here to contact us.
